The Walsall Imperial: 1868 – 2014

This is a three-part article covering the history of the Walsall Imperial as it tends to be called. Initially built as the Agriclutural Hall, it has been a private venue, theatre, cinema, bingo hall and finally, a pub.

Part one covers 1868-1908, when it was the Agricultural Hall and later, St George’s Theatre and Hall.

Part two covers 1908-1939, when the Imperial opens as the premier cinema in Walsall, hosting the Battle of the Somme film in 1916 through to the start of its decline in the 1920s and 1930s.

Part three covers 1939-2014, which sees the decline, fall, reuse and eventual rebirth of the Imperial.
