This is, after the introduction and the first section on the Wyrley area prior to the Great War, the second section on Great Wyrley and the Great War, and examines, in two parts, the war months of 1914. It looks at the initial responses in Wyrley, Cheslyn Hay and other areas, to recruitment, fund-raising, food economy, as well as local support and understanding of the war, along with its views of friend and foe alike. Please remember, as stated in the introduction, the evidence used is not confined to Great Wyrley, and further military, along with national events, are used for context.

Well bless my soul, I am even more miserable now I have realised that I have been writing Wyrleyblog for 9 years. While the intention behind the Blog was for my own interest, with the subtle hope, being miserable, to bore anyone that found themselves accidentally upon its pages, I have to report that this has, in fact, backfired: for I have been thanked recently by someone in Andys’ Alehouse for helping them ‘incredibly,’ apparently, with their chronic insomnia problem. Seriously, thank you all for reading, commenting and joining in, over the years, with the real aim of promoting our own local history. It has been an honour, and please remember that Great Wyrley, Cheslyn Hay and Bridgtown all have local history societies so even if I do bore you, they wont.
